Glacier Country is a haven for hiking. In fact, Glacier National Park, the Bob Marshall Wilderness and Jewel Basin Hiking Area are some of the premier hiking destinations in America. You can also find numerous trails in Glacier Country's many forest areas; call the Northern Region Forest Service for more information at 406-329-3511.
Glacier National Park
If you are a day hiker, you don't need a permit. But if you are a backpacker planning to stay overnight, you must get a permit. Go to a Glacier National Park Visitor Center for a back country permit, and to make sure a camping site is available at your destination. It's a very good idea to make a reservation for overnight camping in Glacier, as the spots go quickly. Call 406-888-7800 to find out more, and be aware that there is a fee for the permit.
